The SoftSpot went to Designing Obama

Designing Obama

The SoftSpot went to the Designing Obama speaking event this evening to hand our promotions for our upcoming show and help Phil Hamlett promote Compostmodern which is happening this Saturday.  It was the usual who’s who of San Francisco design events. We met some great people and got to run into Mark Randall again. He is amazingly nice and wished us well on the upcoming event.

The speeches were interesting as they took us through the process of desinging an innovative political campaign. We were amazed at the speed in which everything had to happen. Logos were developed in a matter of days and weeks instead of weeks and months, websites were designed and thrown up live and then adjusted love as well. It was a whirlwind of “what ifs” and chances that happened to come together and create a great visual identity.

Michael Osborne is a Softy

January 17th, 2009 · No Comments · Interviews, Mike

Michael Osborne

The softy crew visits Miachel Osborne at his studio, and learned more about what it means to be a softy with his social design studio called Joey’s Corner. We covered a variety of topics from the power of the US Postal stamp to raise money for breast cancer to the power of a t-shirt that teaches health and safety in africa while servings as much needed clothing. Michael kept saying over and over again that he couldn’t believe that Joey’s Corner is actually working out. He was astounded that over and over as he travels to talk about design, the young designers are thirsting for the stories about joey’s corner and how to design a better world. He laughs and remembers,”When I was young, I didn’t care about that stuff. All I cared about was making tons of money and getting laid.” We left his office with elevated spirits and wanting to take the world by storm.

Do you like TED talks? Well now if you don’t know yet (like me until today) there is a conference called Pop!Tech that brings innovative people from all over to talk about interesting and world changing ideas. The one thing i have notices about Pop!Tech is that it has a completely different flavor of guest than TED does such as one of my favorite authors Malcolm Gladwell. Check it out.
