Hi everyone…
So, it’s been a while since the last posting…and, that’s because we’ve been up to a few things…like, attending the New York Art Director’s Club Portfolio Review, settin up shop at the Academy of Art University’s Spring Show (a special thanks for everyone who came out), and most importantly, finally graduated grad school!!! Woooowoooo…so, now what? Well, that’s what we’ve been working on. Keep posted for more to come, cuz you know it will;)

In the meantime, we have been getting a ton responses from wonderful people who want to get involved, so, if you, too, wanna get down, send us an email at WhatsUp@TheSoftSpot.org, and we’ll be sure to get in touch.

Talk soon…

Hi Softys!

Just wanted to thank everyone for coming out for the WHAT THE *#&! IS SOCIAL DESIGN opening reception on March 12th! It was a fabulous evening filled with inquiring minds, design enthusiasts, and soft serve ice cream cones. We absolutely enjoyed every moment of the night and got to meet some fantastic new softys. You can check out some photos and some short videos from the event on the softy crew facebook page. As the exhibition comes to a close this upcoming Saturday (March 28th) we hope that those of you who didn’t make it to the opening can check it out before its finale.

You can also catch up on a bunch of fabulous softy stories and blog postings about the exhibition…

Is this Hunter Wimmer’s SoftSpot?

February 24th, 2009 · No Comments · Updates

baldsticker.jpg

We spent some time taping and stickering up the graphic design floor of the Academy. We left a softy sticker on Hunter Wimmer’s door, and found this days later. Sources have yet to confirm if this is actually his SoftSpot, but we will keep you updated on this breaking news.

In other news, stickers are out and about. If you see one feel free to get a sharpie and write your softspot. If you want some to put up around town email us at whatsup@thesoftspot.org. We’ll see what we can do.

The SoftSpot at Compostmodern 09

The SoftSpot had a great time at Compostmodern this year. The speeches were all informative and inspiring, and we got to catch up with many of the softys that will be profiled at our exhibition in March. Thanks to Phil Hamlett for giving us the connections to promote the show. And we got a major shout out from Dawn Danby in her speech. We will be posting the video of that as soon as it is available!

The SoftSpot went to Designing Obama

February 19th, 2009 · No Comments · Mike, events

Designing Obama

The SoftSpot went to the Designing Obama speaking event this evening to hand our promotions for our upcoming show and help Phil Hamlett promote Compostmodern which is happening this Saturday.  It was the usual who’s who of San Francisco design events. We met some great people and got to run into Mark Randall again. He is amazingly nice and wished us well on the upcoming event.

The speeches were interesting as they took us through the process of desinging an innovative political campaign. We were amazed at the speed in which everything had to happen. Logos were developed in a matter of days and weeks instead of weeks and months, websites were designed and thrown up live and then adjusted love as well. It was a whirlwind of “what ifs” and chances that happened to come together and create a great visual identity.
